On the way to visit Napa Valley, we decided to make a side trip to the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge. We stopped at the Cullinan Ranch Tidal Restoration site. It was quite windy that day - not the best for extended hiking. But we did look around a bit. The wetlands restoration seems to be coming along nicely and will have many benefits, including flood control.

Choppy water - evidence of the wind we were walking in |

Mudflats near the highway |
We saw some interesting established plants and a bank of new plantings - native species with tags.

Probably a variety of legume |

The foliage reminds me of asparagus |

If this were video, you'd see the flags flapping wildly in the wind. |
We spied an old building off in the distance. Of course, I had to try my zoom lens to see it better.

After our brisk, short walk, we got in the car and headed for the Napa Valley.

On the road. Vineyards becoming a frequent sight. |

Vines everywhere |

An unexpected sight - open cockpit plane rides, anyone? |
Where there are vineyards, there are wineries. We started seeing them along the highway.
Next up: Yountville, Napa Valley
